Plasmann Studios is a metal arts house specializing in
original and custom-made metal artwork for
individuals, galleries and institutions. We're located on the edge of the Hunter's Point
Naval Shipyard in San Francisco CA, the largest artist colony in the
country. Plasmann Studios is both a cultural milieu of
San Francisco and a zeitgeist of today's art scene.
Although the name Plasmann Studios is brand new, we're
now in our 7th year creating dynamic work for upscale,
contemporary homes, corporate environments and
international galleries. Established in 1997, Dan Das
Mann Studios has grown from a small waterfront shop in
an abandoned neighborhood into a vibrant community of
artists with worldwide commissions. In
early 2003 we formally reorganized as Plasmann Studios
in order to continue bringing you Dan Das Mann
original designs as well as those of other artists
associated with the studios at 710 Innes. NOW we have a new location in Bayview Just off 3rd street, clsoe to Candlestick. We are now at 1526 Wallace Ave Unit D, San Francisco 94124. Our telephone # is the same at 415 643-0817 . Though we do miss the gorgeous bay view of the former location. Due to long standing health issues Dan has
turned over studio operations to Serge Durieux and
Chris Simonini. Michelle, the third partner here, is
the voice you will find most often answering the
phones.
In 2003 we completely revamped our customer service
and production processes to better respond to demand.
Our artistic direction still includes the geometric
popout designs and weaves pioneered from the
beginning, but we've expanded our repertoire with many
more custom options, colors and patterns. We are
constantly introducing new designs and techniques into
our collection.
Sparks flying, metal vaporizing, humans and metal in
whimsical interplay. These distinctive sculptures are
cut utilizing a plasma arc twice as hot as the surface
of the sun. Steel, brass or copper reflecting light
and casting shadow, these designs fuel and excite the
imagination.
Please contact us for more information. Thank you for
your interest in Plasmann Studios. We're here to make
art. Enjoy!
Serge Durieux
Raconteur, world traveler, and artist. Serge sees
everything as potential art fodder. Raw materials.
Found scraps. Varied baubles. He looks at them, holds
them in his hands, imagines an art piece, then makes
it. The well spring for his art is the unique aspects
of the mediums. What can metal do that wood cannot?
How does light refract off copper versus heat-painted
steel? He creates metal art in a loose, tribal style,
wrought with color.
Starting as a craftsman of jewelry and chain mail, he
evolved his art into metal sculpture. His vision is
influenced by his background of multimedia sculpture,
printmaking, wood working, glass and Plexiglas, wire
form, light sculpture and armor techniques. Serge has
engulfed himself in art most of his life. He believes
the creative process is innate in everyone and that
he's one of the luckiest people in the world to
indulge in the opportunity and freedom of full
self-expression.
Chris Simonini
Chris is a real artisan. His background of mastering
metal in the sign industry is peppered with experience
in glass carving, graphic design, murals, sculpting,
industrial custom fabrication as well as owning his
own art gallery for 11 years. Since coming to Plasmann
Studios, he has assessed his agility with the grinder
and plasma torch and found a powerful substitute for
paint and pencils.
Sparks spraying through the air. Slag dripping like
wax. Smoke swirling in the flashing light. And behind
it all is Chris. As a sign maker most of his life, his
style tended to blur the distinction between realism
and impressionism, rarely indulging in what might be
termed abstract or freeform art. But through his
almost 3 years as head of the shop for Plasmann
Studios, he has been drawn to the exploration of
materials and techniques, inviting a whimsical
explosion of form, movement and color that seems to
develop on some level outside of himself.
Chris has survived on the fringe of the fringe art
community since the mid-eighteen hundreds, kept in
captivity throughout business hours he is often set
free after sunset to wander the streets with his
guitar in search of a smoky bar room.
Michelle
Michelle is our Office Genie. She balances quality
with efficiency. She enjoys the momentum of
multi-tasking. She's present and accessible, sagacious
and succinct. Everything works much better now. Her
art is as the liaison between every bustling aspect of
the studio, tracking every piece from your order to
creation to shipment. She's committed to the
maintenance of lasting relationships of mutual respect
and communication with the artists, galleries and
connoisseurs. Michelle, the third partner here, is the
voice you will find most often answering the phones.
Call Plasmann Studios. She'll be there. |
